After taking the rigging class...see other post, we decided to put our new skills to use and rappelled down a waterfall in Sandy. We used these trees as the first anchor, when we got ready to rappell down we realized we had left half of our stuff in the car, but thanks to 4 years of ROTC and a minor in Military Science we knew how to rappell without fancy devices and just good old carabeener's. Neither of us are using what we majored in in school, but at least we're getting something from our minor :)
This is looking back up the water fall after we were done, you can see our rope at the bottom.
We ended up hiking straight uphill about an extra 30 minutes followed by hiking straight downhill for 15 minutes before we found the right trail, we left some of the equipment in the car, but we learned a few good things for our first adventure out and we're looking forward to trying it again with a bit less hiking! Also, another important note: afterwards we drove through a burger joint on the way home for dinner and Josh managed to inhale a piece of lettuce, it was touch and go for a minute since he was the one driving, eventually he decided he better pull over and let me drive as he tried to hack it out at least half of the way home. After this it was flippin lettuce that almost did him in! I really took a lesson from that about our boring life!
