Keyan's Leg

Keyan has been a monster lately...I assumed (and recently confirmed) that he was teething so I just let him deal with his issues. He just kept wanting me to hold him all of the time. I also noticed his balance seemed to be off so I thought he might have an ear infection. He seemed to be limping so we dug out some little slivers on his right foot. But overall I couldn't quite put my finger on what his issue was. Then on July 8th (friday) I was getting him ready for us to go to Tiago's Dr.'s appoint, I was putting some lotion on his legs and he was being really oanory when I went down his left leg, so I gave it a good squeeze and he got really mad and cried, suddenly all of the above indicators came together and I realized he had a serious leg issue.

Since I was already taking Tiago I decided to have the Dr. take a quick look at Keyan while we were there. I showed him what happened when I squoze his leg and he was concerned so had us go get an x-ray. We took it right back to his office and he confirmed that Keyan had a "buckle fracture" He wanted us to see an orthopedic specialist to make sure it would be okay; their office was closed so he was put in a big splint to keep him off his leg until we could get him in. This is how he spent the weekend:

He couldn't get into the specialist until Tues (can you beleive they couldn't fit in a 1 year old with a fractured leg) I was really bugged by that. Anyway, once we got him in, the Dr said he would be fine that the injury had happened a couple of weeks prior because it was already in the healing process. He made a little "boot" for him since they don't make real ones quite that small. Keyan cruised around on that thing for a few days and now he is walking all over the place better than he ever has. We are still watching him a little closer to be sure Tiago doesn't roll on his injured leg, but since he cut the moler in his mouth he has been a whole new little boy! He is happy again even though his leg isn't 100%.

He'll get another x-ray next week to be sure everything has healed properly. It's amazing how resiliant kids are, it must be our adult minds that tell us we can't do this or that because of some pain we are feeling. Don't worry I felt pretty crappy that my little boy had "broken" his leg and I had no idea. We're still not exactly sure how it happened, it just blows my mind that he didn't give us any more evident clues that something was REALLY wrong.
